I graduated in 2002 with a 1st Class Hons. degree in Contemporary Textiles/Surface Design. In June 2003 fibre was established, based at the Manchester Craft and Design Centre. I have worked as a freelance designer selling textile pieces in London, New York and Paris. I also work as a painter for a major greetings card company based in Manchester.
My biggest inspiration is drawn from nature. I am a keen gardener, and have a love of plants, cultivated and wild. Countryside imagery has always been a major influence in my work.
Many of my products are designed with the home in mind, and I enjoy combining indoor and outdoor influences to create a country image. Customers often ask me to create personalised frames and cards for their loved-ones, that are based on specific details of their lives. Weddings, anniversaries and ‘special’ birthdays are the most common occasions.
In order to create something really meaningful, I gather as much information as I can about the person, including favourite colours, places, hobbies etc. By incorporating these details into my design, I am able to create a piece of work that is unique and meaningful to help celebrate that special occasion. Though I never get to see the pleasure of the recipient, the gratitude of the customer and the feedback that they give me, is very heart-warming.
On my days off, I like to unwind by painting pictures and perusing Pintrest. Going for a stroll along the river, pottering in my garden, and browsing the vintage shops; always gathering inspiration for new projects and designs.
